A TENS (transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation) unit sends electrical currents to certain areas of the body for pain relief. This pain therapy can be used in a hospital or doctor’s office, but can also be used in your own home for convenience and comfort. It is used to control the feeling of pain, either temporarily or permanently. People who are suffering from bursitis, arthritis, tendonitis, and other injuries may find this therapy beneficial.
It is a safe treatment option, but some electrical currents can be very intense. Pregnant women should not use this kind of treatment. Some people find relief right away and only need to use this treatment method for a short period of time. Others need it for a more prolonged time.
To find out if this therapy is right for you, call Mitchell Wachtel, DPM, at (978) 794-8406 and make an appointment in our North Andover, MA, office.
