What can be causing pain in the ball of my foot?

Ball of the foot pain has many potential culprits, but it’s typically related to metatarsalgia. This is actually a general condition that involves inflammation and soreness in the ball of the foot.

Metatarsalgia is usually related to too much pressure on the forefoot. This could be from your footwear, your activities, your weight, or even deformities. Footwear that shifts weight forward (like high heels) or that’s too tight or narrow puts pressure on the forefoot. Running and being active can strain the ball of your foot as well. Unfortunately, being overweight or having high arches or other foot deformities, like bunions, could contribute to ball of the foot pain. Even other ball of the foot conditions, like a Morton’s neuroma or stress fractures, could be behind your pain.

The best way to tell why you have metatarsalgia is to get your feet checked. Let our team with Mitchell Wachtel, D.P.M. help you take care of your feet today. Just make an appointment with our North Andover or Lowell, MA, offices online or by calling (978) 794-8406
