Does plantar fasciitis cause heel spurs?

Heel pain from heel spurs

Heel spurs are calcium deposits that protrude off the bone. They can lead to heel pain and be very uncomfortable, or you might not even know they exist. It all depends on the situation. Certain things can lead to the development of bone spurs, including having flatfeet, running on hard surfaces, wearing poorly fitted shoes, and being overweight or obese. For this reason plantar fasciitis and heel spurs often go hand in hand as the risk factors are the same. Plantar fasciitis doesn’t necessarily always cause bone spurs, but they can both be found together a lot of the time. If you treat the plantar fasciitis you can often treat the pain symptoms caused by the spurs as well.

If you have more questions about heel spurs or plantar fasciitis please call Dr. Mitchell Wachtel at (978) 794-8406 to schedule an appointment with us in one of our three Massachusetts locations.
