Get the Most from Your First Podiatry Visit

Comments (0)

Trying something new for the first time can be both exciting and intimidating. Some things are more exciting than others, like riding your first roller coaster, attending your first concert, or visiting a new country. Other things tend to make people more nervous than excited, like visiting a new doctor. Your first podiatry visit doesn’t have to be a nerve-wracking experience. Preparing for your first appointment will help you get the most out of your time with a foot specialist so you can be well on your way to the foot comfort and healing you need.

Once you’ve made your first podiatry appointment, the best thing you can possibly do for yourself to get the most out of your time with the doctor is to prepare. Preparation can make a big difference, saving you time and making sure all your questions get answered.

All doctor’s offices require new patient paperwork and insurance information. Make sure you have your insurance cards and an ID ready for your check-in. Also, most offices, including ours with Michtell Wachtel, DPM, have new patient forms that you can download, print off, and fill out ahead of time to bring with you. This saves time at your check-in.

During your appointment, your podiatrist may need to know your medical and family history, as well as the symptoms you’re experiencing. Writing all this down ahead of time can help you make sure you don’t forget anything when you’re in your appointment. Most likely your doctor will want to check your shoes and any orthotics you have, too, so make sure to bring the pairs you use most often to your appointment.

You’ll probably have plenty of questions, too. Writing those down ahead of time can help you make sure you address all your concerns and don’t forget anything you wanted to talk to the doctor about.

Your first podiatry visit is exciting—it’s the first step in your foot health journey. Preparation can go a long way toward helping you getting the most out of your time with your foot specialist.
